Consciousness based studies of matter

Traditionally science studied nature by dividing it into two parts – mind and matter. This approach began with Descartes' Dualism and has no doubt led to enormous progress in our understanding of nature. With the advent of quantum physics, the conception of matter has gone a fundamental change and still it is not known what it’s true nature is. Studying consciousness per se seems to be a far fetched thing, as present conception of matter itself is not clear. The concepts involved in studying consciousness per se lie outside the modern day science. On the other hand, if we alter our approach and incorporate some ideas of consciousness to refine our understanding of matter, the concepts involved remain in the mainstream science. This approach seems better and it is called consciousness based studies of matter.
